It's really cool, this is my first winter in the woods and I'm starting to see owls. They are so difficult to find in their camo plumage. Looks like the owl quest has begun. How the hell do I get them to pose? I see them land in a tree 100 yards away, when I get there I can't find them again...

They aren't easy. They are very shy and normally fly at the least disturbance. I've only seen one in the wild, although I did see it on two separate days on the same limb of the same tree.

About all I can suggest is to move very slowly when they aren't looking and freeze dead still when they are. They are primarily nocturnal so when you see one during the day normally all it wants to do is sleep, and if you don't make much noise that's usually what it will do.

One thing I figured out is that crows hate owls. Every time it flew, about 20 crows would appear out of no where. They were screaming at this poor owl! It makes it much easier in my spot because I follow crows now and they make a piercing sound when they see an owl!

Wouldn't work around here ;( Around here the crows hate everything and everything hates the crows. I think the crows even hate other crows. Any time there is more than 1 crow around they are cawing at each other, every other kind of bird (especially Mocking Birds) are trying to chase them off, and the crows are chasing all the other birds so they will leave them alone. It's a real free-for-all ;)

Nice! Crows definitely hate owls and hawks where I'm at! One thing I've seen is using calls to get them to come in. A guy on youtube named Colin Knight uses some and gets them to come in really close. Here's a video, skip to 12:50 to see what I'm talking about. Just a thought.

That is CRAZY!!!! I hope I don't end up with talons in my skull :) I'm more passive, I only shoot wild birds and never bait or try to call them...
