Personal Trainer Shoot

I did a shoot for a very good friend of mine who, this year, decided to quit his job at the gym and go freelance as a personal trainer. He asked me for some promotional shots for his website and for his own records - he had trained and buffed himself up for 8 weeks to get in shape for this day - so although I shot for free, there was still a bit of pressure to make him look good!

These are just my 3 favourites from about 9 finished images. I gave him 3 different edits of all of them: a plain, simple clean up and contrast edit; a dramatic "Dragan" style; and a black and white "Dragan" style.

He was very pleased with the results and so was I, but criticism from other people is always useful. Let me know what you think!

I think the vignetting is a bit much in all of them, to drastic.

I like the first and third the best. The second, I'm not a fan of the weird blue lighting, but I do like the pose. I like all the poses and the lighting is perfect for this type of shot.

For his promo shots, I'd use the #3s. Go big or go home.

I'm a big fan of the "simple clean up" versions. to me the "dragan" style looks contrived.


fwiw, I prefer the B&W of the last, only because I don't like the gelled flash.

Nicely done Ian; I too prefer 'clean & simple', but I can definitely see how the Dragan-style might appeal for this application.
