Photo Editing Before Printing

Before i send my photos off to a printer. (Online, Camera Store.) What are some of the first things i should do or check to ensure a good print. I have Photoshop CS4. I know a little. i was just wondering if there is anything that is standard procedure.

it really helps if your monitor is calibrated..

i work on a 24in iMac. do you know what is the best method to go about doing it.

Hardware calibration (using a colorimeter) is best.

I use the Eye-One Display 2 by X-Rite.

I use one. It works. Not as fancy as some of the other ones out there, but for what I need it to do - it's the best solution.

For the price, it really is hard to beat.
