What's new

Photo Forum is Changing rant.

let everyone vent. Sometimes thats the best way to get our angries out.

Actually, I've seen a number of communities wither away due to lots of venting and not much "foruming."

People! Especially those of oyu who see short-comings - it's ok to point out things that are missing, but you also need to compensate for it by doing it yourself.

Many of the people complaining the loudest are the people that came here when the forum was in full swing. Those members being pointed out for being less active recently have been here for a long time, and contributed when there wasn't much here yet. Some of the people complaining now are people that laid down in a made bed, and it seems they're now ticked off because the sheets need changing.

Grab a hold of one corner, and help out. Post, explain, be supportive, and you build a community.

I think what I'll do, is when I see a question that has been asked ten times already this month, I will use the search button, copy the link for the results, then post the link as an answer.

Cool image, Iron! :D

OK, let's start changing the sheets by leaving this very thread all alone now and look towards the sheets ... this thread seems to have run its course and is done with. Now, everyone off to their new resolves and new tasks! :D

but red sheets would go with the boarders

now we are at the point where it gets silly ;)

Bottom line it seems to be newbs asking the same questions over and over again and getting decent answeres from the more intelligent members here,

Bad statement. Care to re-phrase? Newb does not equal lack of intelligence.

Not everyone can be a pro instantly, some of us have to be newbs first :sexywink:

If you mean to carry on this thread, let's from now on be intelligently silly ... just for once? Maybe? For now?

In a lot of respects the beginner threads consist of the blind leading the blind. My resilience has definitely worn down over time and It's happened to a lot of others who not long ago would have been perfectly happy to make such recommendations. At this point I feel the forum is reaching a critical mass of beginners, but things may turn around. Who knows.

YES!!!! I haven't even read through the rest of the thread but I can't help but comment on this. I've seen one member in the past week go from asking what DSLR he should buy to telling people what DSLR they should buy to telling some one that flash can be the best thing in the world if they learn to use it and get it off camera....but that he doesn't know how to buy it. The kid hasn't even bought a camera yet.

I've seen this several times too. Just because some one you don't even know gives you a big of information on the internets, it doesn't mean you're an expert. I mean, the person giving advice might not even have experience with the subject, but people get so over zealous they don't care. I for one am not shy when it comes to pointed these people out.

Hell, for all you guys know, I could be an eight year old on my mommy and daddy's computer who stole a bunch of "cool photos" off of flickr and claimed that they're mine.

Ed. And the lack of common sense. Every forum apparently has a sign over it that says, "It's OK to ask what camera you should buy in this forum". I do think some of the forum classification choices are a bit poor though. Like the beginner's section and the beyond the beyond the basics section. You get very, very basic questions in both some times and advanced questions in the beginner's forum. You shouldn't ever give the masses a choice when it comes to hoping for some sort of orginization. Forums for "Camera Bodies",
"Lenses", and "Lighting" are a lot more disctinct and leave little for the user to decide. I mean, unless you're a real moron or troll, putting "what camera should I buy" questions in the lighting forum is something that people would not be very apt to do.

I'll weigh in on the "which camera should I buy" issue. The problem, as I see it, is not that the person asking this question is unable or unwilling to search, or really requires that much additional input about the differences between Canon and Nikon. Rather, it's that they're about to drop a grand on a camera. Until then, they saw cameras as things that cost $200, maybe $300 -- suddenly, they're laying out four or five times that. Moreover, people are telling them that they're "buying into a system" that will potentially require several thousands more -- so whatever choice they make now will stick with them for years and years. (Or they might give up the hobby in a month...)

So when someone asks "what camera should I buy," what they're really asking is: "Do I really want to do this? Am I being stupid? Is this a choice I'll regret? Will I be happy?" A little neurotic, sure, but that's how people are sometimes.

And, unless they really are doing something stupid, to some extent the answer is always "yeah, you'll enjoy it. Go ahead and buy it. Jooooiiiinnn uuuuuussss."

Hopefully they will, and we'll end up with a good member of the forum.

Damnit! I was hoping the underlined word "are" would be a link to someone doing something really stupid.

These stupid rant threads are whats hurting the forum. Just shut up and accept the fact that you cant change peoples free speech on a forum and everyone has the right to post. Mods cant just delete every retarded post to try and create a false image of an amazing forum.

It is how it is.

That's cool. Next time some one asks if they should think about using flash and ten people chime in that it makes your pictures look like crap because they only flash they've ever used is the pop up, I'll just let it go and chalk it up to it just being "how it is."
