Plus your flower is underexposed. I increased exposure on it.

Now the leading line of the guard rail was a good idea, but jamming the flower way down in the extreme lower right corner wasn't.
Because we write words beginning in the top left corner in the western hemisphere, people look to the top left first, and the bottom right last.

The flower just doesn't have enough scale in the image to be effective as a primary image element as indicated by the selective coloring.

How do I increase the exposure in PS?

Which Photoshop? :gah:

There are several ways.

I increased the exposure locally by dodging.

You could select just the flower and use an Exposure adjustment layer to increase it.

You could open the image in ACR and either globally increase the exposure, or if you're using CS4 or 5 use the TAT tool, or the adjustment brush to adjust the exposure.

You could also use a layer mask.

I get the point that you are trying to convey here, but i feel that all that is a bit extra...and IMO, rather rude....just sayin'

Edit: I hate when people pick apart a photo bc of something technical that they don't like about a picture...I understand that this is a place to learn more about photography, but come on people...Let and artist be an artist...if he saw something in that particular shot, in that particular MOMENT that spoke to him/her and told him/her to take this picture, the take it for what it is...editin is fine but this is a bit beyond editing...its insulting....just my opinion

The OP doesn't seem to be offended by it, so I don't see any harm. It sure gets the point across... Just sayin'.

I'm not sure if it's the empty space, or if it's the fact that a guard rail detracts from the theme of "nature", but the image is lacking something. I think it's the scale of the tiny flower vs. the massive leading line caused by a man-made object.

just my opinion
Yes, we are all allowed to have one.

You can always put me on your ignore list. I'm sure others have.

Nope, I don't think that is fair...Like I told you in the PM I sent you....I value your views and opinion. I just think that sometimes the "more knowledgeable" posters go about conveying those views and opinions the wrong way. No harm, no foul....And it's over. I don't hold grudges and look forward to learning more...from everyone here.

I can take the criticism, I know most may or may not like it. To me I thought it was pretty cool how the guard rail curved around, and then BOOM the flower was waiting there at the end. Much like a snake striking its prey. It says to me how mankind has encroached so much on nature and nature at times strikes back.

^^ answer to question vv

Personally, I think the guardrail is leading the eye away from the flower and right out of the frame. In addition to that, it is not a very strong B&W image to start with.

The idea behind the photo, this I like. Keep at it.
