Photographing Watches

I am a portrait photographer by trade but I just bought a shiny new watch and I want to grab some nice photos of it.

What tips and tricks do you product photographers have?
Sure there's the light tent but that's bloody obvious.

What sort of accessories and "poses" do you do with watches?

And boy is getting a watch clean ever a bugger!

I can agree with this, I have a Movado bold and it has a glass face. I don't know what it is but no matter how hard I try that last swipe with the cloth when cleaning it always wants to leave a streak.

I've read (here, somewhere) that it will look best when the hands are at 10 and 2 (10:10 or 1:50).

And it only took you from 7:15 to 11:30, 4 hours and 15 minutes, to NOTICE THE WATCH!!!!

I actually noticed the watch first. I'm not on TPF like ALL the time.
Also it took me a few minutes to figure out if it was a Rolex Submariner or a Steinhart Ocean 1.

Next time I will have her loose the outfit.

Macro lenses, ring flashes, best possible polarizing filter you can buy to reduce glare.

As for props and what not, I like using fabrics, pillows and whatever else I can find, really. It does depend on the product though and the general feel that either I, or a client is after. Of course, you can always get a watch display as well.

From there, it's a matter editing.
