Photomatix Tone Mapping Photos - Always Cartoony?

I usually get carried away with Photomatix tone mapping and create over saturated Alice In Wonderland photos. I've tried toning (intended) it down a bit here but I would love a wise ones option as to whether it still looks a tad unrealistic or not.

I'm no expert, but I usually take it back into photoshop and edit them some more. Usually I would change the levels. You could also try desaturating it a bit as well.

As far as this photo, it almost looks flat. Also the building colors kind of run into each other. I realize that is part of the effect. However, if you are trying to make it look real, then photomatix may not be the best tool in the first place.
