IMO

ok start. but

1. the tree is both to close to you and in the center of the photo.. you want this image to tell a story, you could of backed up and let more foreground in and then use the 2/3rd rule for the tree.. it also looks like it is blown out with flash..

2. cute kid, i think with the scratches and stuff this could be made darker and again get him out of the center of the picture. i do like the way the light wrapped around his face and created a shadow adding depth.

3. i would of shot this and then zoomed in (if your lens will do that) get really close to show the texture of that wood... as is it is just another picture of a chipped paint peice of would... need to add something to it.. i do like how you have a focus point and not the whole pic is in focus though..

good job for starting!

#1 too blown out...over-exposed.
#2 chopped off the top of his head, try portrait mode, vertical orientation.
#3 like watching paint dry.
#4 subject has promise but composition is off. If your perspective was higher so the the hanging cart was at waterline it might work ;)

Wow thanks for the fast reactions!

Yes indeed the first picture is blown out. I kind of accidently made that photo, but I liked the way it came out. The light gives it an almost 'heavenly' effect.
So for the second picture I should zoom in more? I could do that digitally but my 18-55 lens doesn't zoom in further without getting out of focus.

Thanks again for the tips!

Not really a critique, but #1 almost looks like a charcoal drawing.

not to point out the obvious, but are you in AF mode?...if you are unable to get clean focus at 55mm, back up. you might be too close to subject. idk the min focal distance for that lens, but check to make sure AF is ON, and you are far enough away.

ooops the zoom was at 18mm.. Yeah pretty obvious, zooming in all the way is better for macro.
I try to shoot everything with manual focus, I won't learn anything if I use autofocus :p Thanks for your reply though!

Here is a new picture of the hanging wheelbarrow that I had lying around:

youll learn PLENTY if you use AF.
Auto exposure mode though....that might be a different story.
