When you create multiple layers, how do you make it so there is no layer "rank". As in, if you make a layer for cloning, and then make another layer for hue/saturation, how do you make it so when you click the eye you can see what changes were made.

Here's my issue, I have 5 layers. If I make a 6th and shut off the 3rd, it shows no difference. In order for me to see the difference, I have to shut all other layers off first.
I don't know the proper terms because I've been learning via trial and error so that's why I'm having an issue articulating my problem.

It depends what type of layers are between layer 6 and layer 3, and if layers 4 and 5 have any transparency.

If layers 4 and/or 5 have no transparency you cannot see through them, and de-selecting the eye for layer 3 would have no effect if layer 6 is selected as the active layer.

You could move layer 3 so it's right under layer 6, instead of under layer 4. Just click and drag layer 3 up the layer pallet.

You also have the option of grouping layers. Do you know about the Layers panel menu drop down box in the upper right corner of the layers pallet?

Thanks KmH - I figured out what I need to do but don't know how to achieve it. I want to have linked layer masks. How do I do that between layers? I searched for linking layers in photoshops help, but it links you to topics not pertaining to the what I am trying to do. It's like a really bad google. It's different on mac, I find that the mac help is keyworded and a lot better.

Linked in what way? So that when you move one it moves them all? Is so they are all edited at the same time?

PS is very linear and doest allow for a lot of flexibility in this area.
