Pic Heavy (Lighthouse) C&C please

Made a recent trip to Michigan and wanted to photograph some of the lighthouses. I'm somewhat pleased with these but the lens flare for the night photos are driving me crazy. How would you fix that? I'm still trying to learn and could use some feedback. Thanks

I feel like 7 could have been wonderful if you had used a more telephoto lens with a similar framing. Compression would bring the lighthouse closer and larger.
I also like 8 a lot.

FWIW, i really like the flare from the lights themselves in 2. and 3. The flare on the right side of the frame in 3. is the only part that bothers me.

I totally love 1 ,2 & 3 even with the lens issue
8 (with the addition of the clouds - would liked to seen the foreground OOF)


what camera / lens combo ?

and which lighthouses were these ?

Even though I live in michigan, going to the lighthouses is on my bucket list yet to be achieved.

1-6 were at the southhaven lighthouse

7 was at the manistee lighthouse

8 was the light house at bear sand dunes

Shooting with a D3000 and a 35mm 1.8 for the night pics the other was the 18-55 kit lens.

Very nice shots. I feel the post processing is a bit heavy in some of the images, though. The sunset in #7 looks too saturated on my screen. My favourite is #5. I like the composition in that one best. Thanks!

(Btw, that is a lovely lighthouse. The ones here are mostly ugly!)

both on my bucketlist sooner or later.
I've heard the waterfalls up north are fantastic in the winter time, though a bit of a problem to get to even with 4 wheel drive.

Thanks batmura my next purchase is some calibration software. I agree they look a little strong on this pc but the one i edited them on must be quite a bit different.

7 was alot of edit just because it was such a dull sky that day. There was also quite a bit of noise in the night pics even though the iso was set to 100 and used quite a bit of noise reduction to help make it disappear.
