So, some of you may have noticed my continuing to mention that
I was hired as festival photographer for a big student festival
our uni is hosting every second year. I haven't been allowed to share
photos yet, as I had to wait until the festival was over. It is,
however, and I've been really anxious to post my favourite shots!
I've been mainly doing concerts, but I spesifically asked to shoot
"Lovkasting" (translation: "Law Casting"). This is a happening that one
of the law professors is hosting. Goal: Throw the book containing
all of Norway's laws as far as possible. Norwegian record is 39 meters.
In the background was songs such as "All You Need is Love" (love - lov...
get it?? Lov is the norwegian word for law!).

Some basic information about my equipment used,:
I shot exclusively on my EOS 40D body. I did use an old rangefinder on
two concerts, but those were just for me. I used my Canon 50mm/1,8 and
Tokina 11-16mm/2,8. For the last concert, I actually remembered to bring
along my Itorex 80-210mm/4,5. That's an old lens my dad used on his
OM-10 or something. I bought an OM-EF adapter. I got some good shots
with it. Check out the close-up in # 35

My experience with the nifty fifty is that it works great - given that
there is enough light. Auto focus isn't the most accurate, but I've
learned eto know how to use the AF on this more efficiently. I don't
press and hold the AF button, but rather do a quick push on it. It
focuses better, it seems, when it doesn't "search" for focus, but rely
on its "gut feeling", hehe :).
The Tokina is great for when standing in the pit. Many possibilities.

A word about my editing. I decided that unless I feel that the light is
playing an active role in the impression of the shot, I'll leave it out.
Black and white is great for conveying emotion and energy, and so most
of these are black and white. I aimed for high contrast, which I think
works really good! The artists is only half the concert. Getting shots
of the audience was also important to me, so I've included some of my
favourite guest-shots as well.

I just want to mention a certain band, Rednex. A Swedish band that has
been all over the world. Played songs as "Cotton-Eyed Joe" (which they
played three times during the concert, LOOOL). Awesome performance. I
came along with the journalist backstage, and got a photo of them there.
We got a beer back there, and they were super nice. towards the end of
the concert, the lead singer pointed at me and made me enter the stage
for some on-stage photos. Awesome experience. Unfortunately, I'm not
that experienced with concert photography, and so I didn't get much good
from up there. This was the only band whose memebrs actually paid any
attention to us, the photographers. They came down and posed, which no
one else did! I got some neat shots with eye contact, I think.

I think that's all I wanted to say. If you read everything, that's
awesome. I just wanted to share some of my thoughts of shooting concerts.

So, here follows my favourite shots. Some have short comments.
If anyone wants to comment on any of them, please do. I'm not expecting
C&C, as I'm posting pretty many photos here!

I hope you enjoy some of the shots here! :)
Anders

57 Law Casting: went for the more dramatic look, as you can see :) This guy thought it best to throw backwards. Safer, but it's not the way to go for distance!

58 Law Casting: one of the guys in charge of the concert lighting and smoke etc. He went for the discos technique, and almost threw a 1.5kg book into me and my equipment LOOOOOOOOOL

too many to comment individually, but overall I think it's a REALLY strong collection.

Way to many to give you anything of value. I honestly quit looking when we hit 20+ Some of them are really pretty awesome. Some of them REALLY need to have the clarity laid back some on them.
Overall it shows some great growth from your first set of concert/event work and you should be proud.

Not after individual comments, just wanted to share what I've been doing the last month :)

I spent like 45 minutes writing this. :p

I agree overall a very strong collection. Some might be a tad grunge for my taste, or are you using that to mask ISO noise?

I think you should be proud of these.

Thanks, man! Some were noisy, especially those which I had to exposure-bump after. Usually I could be at ISO800-1000, but sometimes 1600 and even H was necessary. After some time I found out that when they flashed the hall with white light at certain parts in the songs, I could get the audience+stage shots I needed. Often, they got published.

Some pretty good stuff man! There are a few gems in with the polished agates. You're growing as a photographer!

Thanks, I'm excited to hear that! I have learned a lot, and pushed me and my equipment to its limits!

Did you use google translate!? I'm trying to figure out which word you used to generate "lykke"............which makes little sense in this context. ;)

Clearly I did not use google translate...I have been to Norway quite a few times, Tromso is one of my favorite places. What I was trying to write was: "I like it!" which of course I do. They are stunning.
Great job.

Never been there, but it's supposed to be beautiful. I'm from the south-west.

Great job.

My favourite part of Norway way blasting my motorbike up the Trolstigen, and up the snow road and through that 25km tunnel
