A flash mob-ish contest running for a week, winner-by vote, open or rotating categories, comments(?). A Quickie C&C?
The monthly contest process is drawn out. Only aim here is to increase participation and encourage new/less-frequent visitors to get/stay involved with TPF.

A quickie C&C....little risqué for this crowd isn't it?🤣

All kidding aside, I have no problem with it, but considering how little participation there is in POTM now I don't know that another contest would be wise, unless maybe it was a prelude to POTM. Each weekly winner goes to POTM?

So far, the moderators have no issues with the idea. Our approach has always been that the site does better when member-driven.

You're going to be in charge of it, of course. Study on where you might like to have it, develop your game plan, and have at it.

Maybe beginning the cocktail hour at lunch yesterday is to blame for this. Can the weekly work to feed the monthly? 24hr entry window? Single entry? Anonymous entry? Other ideas?

Sure, blame the booze!

The POTM is member-driven, so if someone popped in a weekly image that may otherwise be overlooked for POTM, I don't see why it couldn't be nominated for POTM - assuming it fell in the same month.

All the other questions are things for you to consider. Hint: a casual approach may serve you better. 😉

Go for it!

I'll wait for more input/opinions/heckling--whatever.

Just my two cents worth, but

1. A weekly contest that involves voting on a winner, is awful short, you'd be into the next week or later on voting.
2. Sane holds true with nominating an entry.

You might get more entries faster if it was open to members to nominate their own.

There's been similar contests where the person running the contest picked the winner. However, just be forewarned even those that offered small prizes struggled with participation.

Another forum I was on had a designated person who picked a weekly best from all the images submitted during the week in all galleries.

One entry/person. "Nomination" doesn't work for this. Sure, rotating judges--a short straw opportunity for sure-Hah! Tired of photo dumps and frequent posters who rarely--if ever--interact with the inmates.

@cgw You sure your patience level is up to it? 🤣😂😅

Having dealt with the posting issue in another thread, there's a lot of reluctance to participate, and if they do there's a reluctance to even follow basic instructions. The one I mentioned earlier about the rotating judges picking something worked fairly well....primarily because it didn't require any effort on the part of members. 🫢

But please don't let me discourage you, I'm all for anything that will up participation on the forum.

I'm very fond of the Coffee House crew--doubtless a major excuse for hanging around! But I have to spill. Sites like TPF are troves of tech knowledge, generously shared, and venues for image viewing and critique. Guess I'd like to see the collective benefit of that leveraged for
more participation.
How that's achieved is what interests me.

Doubt if there's gonna be much of a reception to this, basically impossible to even get someone just shooting the the breeze on here.

As quoted by Morla the ancient one "we haven't spoken to anyone else for thousands of years, so we started talking to ourselves"👍.

Go for it. IMO it could be put in the Technical Challenges area. Give it a couple weeks to get real attention, then see how it does after a month or two.

As far as feeding POTM, Terri is spot-on. As long as an entry fits the same month rule, it can be nominated. We don’t want to automatically qualify anything for POTM, though.
