picked up a new D7100

Nice! The D7000/7100 hit a features/performance sweet spot like the old N90s/F100 did.

Got mine a couple weeks ago to replace my D90 as my DX body. Love everything about it so far.
Enjoy! Saw your other thread. Glad you went this way. The AF is fantastic. Tends to underexpose slightly in matrix metering.
By biggest problem going from the D90 (and D700) to the D7100 is remembering that base ISO is 100. ;)

im still working my way through the manual and the camera settings. LOT of new options. AF-A is new. there are a lot more AF options as well. 9/21/51 point, 3D. I still like my good old single point focus, AF-S, and spot metering. (i just have a lot more focus points as an option now)
Just from a couple of test shots, it really looks like ISO 6400 is going to be very usable. ISO 3200 for sure.
i had thought about getting the D7000 for a while now, but it just didn't have the AF system i really wanted from the D300. the fact that the 7100 had the 51 point AF system PLUS the 3500 processor, PLUS the newer 24MP sensor really clinched it for me. the D7000 was still tempting just based on its price now, but while I had the money for the D7100 i decided to just go with the newer model for a change.

I think ISO 3200 myself, but these files clean up quite nicely with Topaz even higher.
A couple other early observations (in case you notice the same):

Highlight recovery is fantastic. This is why I mentioned the underexposure in my previous post. ETTR is the rule with this camera (in my admittedly short time with the body) - no wonder so many people are bitching about banding with extreme underexposure. ;)

I love the in-camera lens correction. I process my raw files with Capture NX2 and was really annoyed that the automatic lens correction didn't default to on with either the D90 or the D700.
I set the auto-correct to on in-camera and now all raw files get corrected as soon as I open them in Capture. Nice.

Many of my lenses seem to need around a -5 to -10 correction (except my Sigma 150 and 35 f/1.4 - which are perfect). My 24mm f/2.8 kicks ass on this body. Nice light-weight 36mm angle of view for street.

My lenses that seem work better on the D700 (FX):

Nikon 70-300mm VR (particularly at 300mm)
Nikon 85mm f/1.4 D

No difference (D700 or D7100 is fine to excellent):

Sigma 35mm f/1.4
Sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro
Sigma 50mm f/1.4
Nikon 24 f/2.8D (slightly better on the D7100, but I like 35mm ;) )

Lenses that shine on the D7100:

Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR1
Nikon 17-55 f/2.8
Tokina 11-16 f/2.8

Slightly disappointing:

Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DX (old version) - But only wide open. By F/4 it's sharp as a tack with pleasant bokeh.

New gear is fun. :)
