#1&2 - cut the vignetting out and dont be afraid to use flash. If you're gonna use a vignette, at least make it subtle.
#3- Best of the group. It is underexposed, again, flash would have helped
#4-5 way over done in post. 4 is really orange and her pose isn't good. 5 is too bright and the empty space behind her doesn't do anything for the photo. She's facing the left so try and crop it with empty space in the direction she's facing.

Definitely watch your crops, especially the last one where her feet are just cropped off. If you wanted to crop, I would have turned the camera to portrait orientation and cropped a little higher. If not, well then include all her feet. The other pictures, you get too close.
And yes, please lose the vignette.

It has everything you need for a pro shot!

Bokeh, vignetting, but you're missing a signature in the photos!

#4 has some potential.
Fix the white balance, it's really warm.
You can retain tone from the sunset without the loss of sunset feel. Try some split toning.

#3 is the best, but hate chopping body parts. (personally.)

On the whole I agree with the preceding comments; a lot of potential but room for impovement as well; #2 & #4 stand out and could do with different tones, but it's chiefly a matter of taste. #1 was shot from too close I would say ...

Hi Montanamyst, first of all, cute kids! That is a great place to start.

I like #1 although it is just a tad unbalanced. You have placed the eyes right in the centre (left to right), but the feet are perilously
close to the edge of the image on the left. I would leave a bit more in on the left, or take a bit out on the right. The vignette is
probably unnecessary. A bit of a catch light in the eyes would be good too.

#2 and #3 are good, although the crop on #3 is a little tight on the top. I assume you have more space in the original shot. (If not,
beware of composing too tightly when you are taking the shot, you can always tidy up in post if there is extra space in the frame
but not so easy if the whole frame is too tight.)

#4 is too orange and over processed - if you are using Photoshop, try making your changes using layers, then you can dial in more or less
of the effect quite easily.

And the chopped foot in #5 is distracting, and the image is overexposed. The histogram would show a spike on the right hand side.

Overall, however, I like them.

Thanks for all the great feedback! I'm working on getting some more equipment. I only have a nikon d3100 and 35-1.8 lense. I've got some reflectors on the way and hoping to get a speedlight soon! I think I'll go back and work on the editing as well as getting some catchlights in the eyes. Would the speedlight get the catchlights?

It's SO easy! Go to Best Buy.. spend $700.00 on an entry level camera! While you are waiting in line at Best Buy.. create a business page on Facebook (use your smart phone to do this!)! If you are really serious.. you can even create your own website with Wordpress (This might take a couple of hours though). Start thinking about a really large watermark using your business name (so no one steals your precious photos!) Use Piknik and Instagram to create a cool, individual style of processing for your photos..... and boom! You are a PROFESSIONAL!

That seems to work for about 90% of the new Professionals out there.... should work for you too!

(btw.. hijacking other peoples threads is not nice.. open your own!)

Montanamyst; #1, re-orient this photo so the horizon is horizontal. the child's head can be tilted as it was in reality.

#2, re-crop right side to just between her had and the rotten tree branch.

#3, don't touch it.

#4, should still be a vertical format, including her "stance" which you cropped off. Don't crop her hands, however.

#5, crop to vertical format, which you probably should have done when you were taking the pic. Extend to include her feet.
