Last weekend I happened to hear two pileated woodpeckers. (a distinct call) I ran into the house and was able to grab a couple shots before they flew off. The spot where they are on the tree is actually a watering hole for a lot of wildlife.
Anyway, what do you think of the shot? I was almost wondering if I would be better off to put them into a portrait crop instead of a landscape.

Thank you for taking the time to view.

I think a portrait crop would look better. There is an awful lot of tree on the right side that doesn't add much to the photo.

Ditto, too much tree, the birds should be the focal point of the pic.

You are both correct. I guess I should have known that. If I'm gonna ask then I should just have done it. Thanks. Hopefully this is better.

Much better in my opinion. I also think it's interesting that the single ray of sunshine in the image illuminated the lower woodpecker's face. Very nice shot.

Thank you both. This is my first image that I can say I feel comfortable standing behind. Lol. It's only taken me a year to finally get one mediocre image.
