Places to get a standard, yet fairly inexpensive DSLR?

Hello there I'm looking to get, as title says, a standard but not bucket loads of cash DSLR!

Where are good places to get them? I'm not fussed if theyr'e second hand, just want it to be able to work and shoot good standard photos! A lens with it would be prefered

Bearing in mind I am in the UK, I have noticed many people here are Americans!

I'm not sure about UK, but I just looked on craigslist for my local area and found a D3s for under $3k (AU) so...maybe a good place to start? Otherwise, many camera shops seem to have a 2nd-hand market running within their own shops.

Digital SLR cameras come in one of 3 levels:

1. Entry-Level (new start at about $500 with a basic 18-55 mm, consumer grade lens)
2. Prosumer (new start at about $1800, for just the camera body, lenses are extra)
3. Professional (new start at about $4000 for just the camera body, lenses are extra)

What is your budget.

Hey thanks for the replies I'm not too sure how to multi-quote on this forum yet so my apologies!

Sparky; theyr'e not very localised shall we say and push quite a lot of money!

Stutterfly'; I hadn't thought of shops selling 2nd hand goods, I've never actually been in one, only window shopped at the ones that are in a reasonable distance from me, it's sort of a make a day trip thing out of it!

Keith: thank you, that entry level looks right for me, $500 = about £350 which is what I'd prefer to spend around that!

As with most things in the UK, it's probably closer to actual price here, if you just swap the $ for £.
Jessops has offers on occasionally, but all new gear only.
Calumet has a wider selection of gear especially the higher end. They also do 2nd hand too, though normally just Canon/Nikon.
