This has been 'shopped enough to get the color in, and darkened a bit in Lightroom, but let me know what you think.

The only thing I noticed is that the light is too harsh on the wrist/palm area, and should be moved to be more even.

It's a neat concept, but needs some development. Why just a single petal? In this case, the small bit of what I assume to be stem is distracting. Also, you could have been better served if you used a reflector to provide the tiniest bit of definition to the back of the hand/fingers. You mention the light being too harsh on the wrist, but rather than trying to "even it out," which would make the entire image pretty bland, why not use it to better highlight the petal (or better yet and entire flower)?

The first photo in your second post is much nicer than the initial one where the fingers seem a little too elongated and thus unnatural. Cool concept.
