Hello everyone,

I own a Canon EOS 600D camera, which is equivalent to T3i for the US market, and I need a setup which will enable me to shoot some interview type videos (no action/moving type videos). I need everything but the camera :)

I need a 15mm rod set up in order to hook up teleprompter. So, I've got a little weight issue I need to take into account: Camera with lens is about 1.5lbs, 4lbs telepromter, iPad around 1.5lbs, base plate with 15mm rods around 2lbs (it doesn't say in the specs, but I figure it's not more than 2lbs), and will add an extra pound for the mic, light, etc. = 10lbs.

I am on a budget, and wouldn't mind paying less if I am not sacrificing a lot of quality.

Here is the setup I was able to come up with taking into account prices I can afford. Please feel free to suggest, add and/or remove products in order to achieve the best possible setup :)

Manfrotto 055XPROB Aluminum Tripod Legs

Manfrotto 496RC2 Compact Ball Head RC2 Quick Release with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate - I figured I would buy ball head and be able to use it for shooting images since I will be doing interview type videos which don't require any movement.

Indi PRO Tools DSLR Baseplate with 9" 15mm Rods

Ok, so the biggest confusion I have is with the base plate. Some questions may sound silly, but I am newbie :) Do I mount it directly to the legs? If I do that, how will I know if I am shooting straight, and/or make any angle adjustments at all? Can I attach a QR plate to the base plate?

Or do I mount everything on top of the head? The head mentioned above can handle all the weight...

Or would you recommend a different setup altogether?

Thank you all in advance. Your help is much appreciated.

Cheers

I just received this same Manfrotto Tripod/Ball head setup today. My camera + lens comes up to 7lbs and it is very solid. I don't think there will be an issue even with your 10lbs setup...

Yeah, I figured it would be ok even with 10lbs... but, since I am a newbie, I wanted to hear some suggestions from experienced guys here on the forum... maybe there is a better way to achieve what I was looking for...

Thanks much for your input.
