Back again with another fungus question.
Photographing the inside of a lens is really, really difficult. This is the best shot I can get, but other than all the lens flare, this is actually worse than what I can see looking through the front of the lens with a strong flashlight. Without a flashlight, you can't see the spider weblike stuff at all. Is this scratches, fungus, or did a spider get loose inside this lens? It's a Nikon 600mm F4G ED VR.

It looks more like fungus or a spider web than cracks. but I have no idea. Hope this helps a tiny bit.

If they're scratches you should be able to see it on thee outside of the lens. If not it's likely fungus.

Dunno. Coating scratches are usually linear or circular from cleaning front and/or internal elements. Have only had a few brushes with lens fungus but nothing looked quite like that.

It's got me baffled. It does not look like any fungus I have ever seen. I can't find a fungus picture online that looks anything like it.

The full story is, I bought this from KEH as UGLY. They had zero notes about what was wrong with it. I called them before buying to see if they had any internal notes. He said it was odd, there weren't any notes of any kind. I took the risk due to the really good price and the fact that I had a 5% off coupon, knowing I could return the lens if it had really bad problems. The lens takes great pictures, the outside condition of the lens is close to perfect, but upon a REALLY CLOSE inspection, I found the web like stuff. It is very difficult to see unless you get it in just the right light. The front lens does not have any markings that I can find.

I can still return the lens. I just have to pay the return shipping. I would be fine keeping the lens as is if I can determine that what ever that weblike stuff is isn't going to get worse. But I don't want to pay to have the lens cleaned either. That would negate any savings I got from buying the ugly condition.
