The only way I will get better is practice practice practice.

So I tried again today. Any thoughts, comments, and critiques? How can I improve? What did I do well? What didn't I do well?

I like the first one. Its cute but where is the guys other foot/leg?
I had to zoom to see it, maybe some light to see the leg separation.

The dof really pushes your eyes right where you want it to the girls tippie toes, very cute picture.

Thanks!! She loves her shoes, and really wanted a shoe shot. I never thought about his other leg!

Second one I feel needs a touch more brightness on the right hand side of the image IMO. First one is excellent even without the guys other foot

Thanks for your input! I was limited in where I could place my flashes, but I could have turned them so the shadows were less harsh... next time!
