I was practicing my event photography. I treated this as if I were taking photos at a wedding reception. Let me know what I need to improve.

Good job getting attention and setup these shots, bump up more iso and use lesser flash and you'll be set!

Where was your flash in these shots?

Where was your flash in these shots?

That's what I was wondering. It seems like your light is coming from the front of the subjects, but in a couple it seems like you had a light behind them too... and in 10 there's obviously a flash going off there

I'm not a fan of how not everyone's face is sharp in 9.

Exactly! In #3 especially, it appears the flash was to the left, and maybe slightly behind.

Yeah, that's the other one I noticed it on. But it still seems, to me, that there is light coming from in front of them.

One flash on camera with bounce card.
One flash off camera that I put at one spot

The ceiling is somewhat tall and unfinished. It is an old industrial brick building. So the ceiling is super tall and you can see the joists above. And of course it is not painted :). Did my best.

My ISO is maxed out!

I really like them and feel that you did a really good job.

good job.
keep the scenes and poses diverse; get candid action shots as well.

Hi, I have a couple of comments, mainly just a preference thing though.

For events, personally Like a more "fly on the wall" photojournalistic style. Are you really capturing the spirit of the vent if you're haivng everyone "pause, pose and smile"?

The other comment is, the flash is harsh in some; there doesn't seem to be a good blend of flash and ambient, which IMHO kills the "mood" of the event. In some, you can even see a shadow from the flash itself - almost always a no-no.

Here's an example of a shot I took at an event that made its way to a local night life magazine. It's pretty hard to tell a flash was even used here; I tried hard not to kill the existing light in the room which, alhtough low, was really cool and moody:

Thanks

i think you did just fine. maybe work out the focusing on some and tone down the flash a bit and your set.
