Practicing with my Friend

I took these last month with my Canon Rebel XS and with the kit lens. These pictures are not edited. CC Please =]

1. It's over exposed. Her face is blown out, her legs are blown out and parts of her sweater is blown out. The angle is kinda awkward and not flattering to her at all.

2. The composition is not very strong here. You have her smack in the center and you cut off part of her finger and where her legs are cut is kinda weird. Her pose, again, is not very flattering to her... and whatever she's wearing... makes her look like she has no pants on. ::Notices next frame:: Okay she DOESN'T have any pants on... which makes this post seem even stranger. :lol:

I'm not really sure what this pose of a girl wearing Native American earrings, headband, a sweater in her underwear is supposed to be conveying.

3. Would have been better in portrait orientation, in my opinion. Why cut off her legs?

Also, it's my opinion (others may differ) that if you're going to have someone laying on the ground... have them laying on the ground rather than a tarp... or blanket... or whatever that is. Modeling is a dirty job. :lol:

I would try to learn more about proper exposure and composition if I were you.

Thank you very much and it was just something random for a calendar she was putting together. The clothes where mine though, lOl it was suppose to be like camping in the woods.

I would definitely recommend more on the bottom half next time. A long flowing skirt would be beautiful (even a denim skirt). Ditto to rose's comments.

For the audience she was aiming for this was acceptable.
I know I crop off some of the picture like in the 1st one. What's a good crop vs. a bad one?

You don't usually want to chop limbs at the joint - so don't crop at the knees, elbows, etc.

In the first one you cut off part of her knee and elbow - you should have stepped back a little to get her knee and elbow in the shot. Fingertips are cut off in the second one. The third one looks odd the way it was composed. I agree with E.Rose that you should have had her legs in the picture. Before you take the shot look around the whole frame to make sure that nothing is accidentally chopped off.

Next time I do something like this, I'll keep that in mind.

I meant to add that before you take a picture you should also check the frame for stuff in the background. Sometimes you might be so focused on the subject that you don't realize you have a garbage can in the background or something like that.

I know that, lOl remember this local photographer took my pictures and in some of them there was a potato chip bag in them. This was near my house so before the shoot. I went up there with my niece and "X" places where I wanted to shoot and cleaned up those areas.

Oh...I don't think that when e.rose said "I'm not really sure what this pose of a girl wearing Native American earrings, headband, a sweater in her underwear is supposed to be conveying" that she meant that she should put clothes on. I think she meant that that's a very odd combination of things to wear. It might make more sense if her stuff matched a little more, maybe?

I am a fashion/business major and wanted to try something different. I was thinking camping meets Pocahontas.
