Cute kid. Leaning towards the BW version. Would have preferred ROT crop (a noob's opinion). I can't get mine to look at the camera. Once they see it they rush at me to see the picture.

Definitely don't hate it. She is a gorgeous little girl, too.
I like the B&W better than the colour, but the colour you said was "original". Has any PP been done there?
The B&W is a nice conversion but for my tastes, is a little flat.
I had a little play using a couple of actions on these pictures, and they may or may not be to your taste. I can post them if you like, or I can link you to my flickr where they're in a hidden set.

Maybe a vertical crop would look good, as stated above.

Feel free to post them. The color version isn't actually "original" per say. I did edit it in RAW (exposure tweak, large amount of noise reduction) and did something else in PS - maybe brightened her eyes and sharpened it. I hadn't even thought of cropping it - I will have to try it.

Thinking now that the mono one is a little "blocked up" in places. It's beginning to look like those old paintings of crying children that used to be all over the place in the 70s!

I love the color edit better than the b/w version. Mine looks really flat compared to yours! I know its an action, but is the contrast boosted during it? I'm really new to this whole photoshop thing and most of my pictures seem a little flat.

The b/w does look almost like a painting! I like everything about the black and white except the way the skin looks.

What I try to do is break down the actions and try to duplicate them, adjusting different things each time. That way I am slowly working out what things do! Do a search for CoffeeShop blog PS actions...I used one here called Velvet Cream (I think it was) and one called No Cream or sugar BW.

But as I say, actions are good, but I like to know what i am doing, so am studying them as I go...

How did you guess? That is exactly what I wanted - I come to an online forum to get reassured that my kid is cute! Doesn't everybody?

The pony tail bugs me too. I have a couple that actually have the full ponytail. I did crop it a little last night to see what it would look like and it does look a lot better. It's hard for me, to compose properly in-camera, when taking shots of her. Hopefully I get better at it!

I actually haven't had to pay her yet! She usually runs and hides from the camera! When I took this one I think she was a little sleepy - otherwise she wouldn't have been sitting still.
