What's new

prime lenses why no image stabilization?

Can anybody identify this logo on my new lens, according to ken rockwell it means the lens will only last up to 10 years because of "tin whiskers"

I though it might be a plastic recycling type number, but i cannot find a type 10

Thanks

John.

KR is trying to be humorous, as in most of his site.

It's called EFUP - Environmental Friendly Use Period. It's how long before the nasty (hazardous material) crap starts to leak out of the device.

Well i can always use it as a plant pot  , a hell of an expensive one.

John.

Divide 10 years by the price if you had to pay everyday. And for the sake of this argument, lets take one of nikons more expensive lens: AF-S NIKKOR80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR. That's about: 0.46 British Pound Sterling each day you pay to have it for 10 years more or less and get great pictures.

If you did this same exact thing on a lowly 50mm that doesn't cost anywhere near the 80-400mm, that price can't even get you a pack of chewing gums.

Adding VR would increase the cost of the lens substantially making it less appealing to most buyers. It would also likely increase the lens size and weight which may be another potential downside for many.
