I like what you're trying to do here, but I think it might be the wrong time of year to get this photograph. The fact that it's the middle of winter and the tree has no leaves makes the photo look a bit dreary, like it's probably going to be too cold out there to have a good picnic. Both the tree and the table are backlit as well, so you're battling some harsh shadows.

What I would recommend doing is going back in the spring after the tree has leafed out, and shooting either early in the morning or late in the afternoon (around sunrise and sunset, respectively) and shooting in the softer, warmer sunlight. Make sure you get in a position that isn't casting harsh shadows on the subjects of the photograph, the tree or the table. Perhaps have the table set up with picnic supplies when you get the shot. In other words, make the viewer wish he or she was having a picnic there, make it look inviting. :)

haha thanks for the input. Actually I love the fall and winter, so this would be great picnic weather for me (I am a november baby. cold doesn't bother me)

Oh man how I want to be there. I agree with what Natalie said about sunset or sun rise because the location is just as important as the tree, however for the same reason I think you would want to be closer or a little more to the ground (then again that depends on the color given to the sky by the sunset/rise). Though I will admit I love leafless trees, you get to see them in all different shades and colors through the year which is nice, but at the same time in the winter they are stripped and show their bare truth (of course when they are bloomed you have more to work with and get more out of it, but just think how beautiful this would be at the right time of day. I like this picture though I think there is too much blue in it and not enough of that beautiful ground. My only concerns about shooting this tree in sunset like this when it's full is the tree might become too much of a silhouette which isn't always a bad thing but it could just make it a big rounded dark spot while at this time of year with it leafless the sunset might prove beneficial through the openings in the branches as long as it doesn't overpower the branches themselves, just play around with it it's defiantly a nice spot and again, I really want to be there.
