Printing help, please

I keep reading that I should convert my photos to 300 dpi before printing. I am wanting to take some of my photos to Cosco to print out some 8x10s. I have taken all my photos in RAW using a Canon XTi. When I bring up camera raw, my raw files are at 240 dpi.

1. Should I adjust my dpi by creating more pixels converting from 240 to 300 dpi?

2. Does anyone know if the Canon XTi will capture in 300+ dpi?

3. Does anyone have experience with printing using 240 dpi?

I am scared to waste my cash on developing my photos. I guess I could always try one out in 240 dpi then go from there. Any info would be highly appreciated.
