There was mustard.
lolol

Anyway I just got this speedlight. And well, I don't know how to use it.
The only reason I bought the damn thing is because I wanted more control over light in certain situations.
So far, high speed sync works with the flash mounted on camera. I can control light with the shutter, which I like. I can take it all the way up to 1/8000 if I want.
Take it off the camera, mount it up on a tripod, wireless, I'm limited to 1/160 shutter speed. Which sucks. I've got to be doing something wrong.
Like that's never happened before.
I may not ever have a use for the damn thing anyway, since all of my stuff is done outdoors. I just wanted to peek into the other side of things.

I buy stuff I don't know how to use. Step over to a different side of photography that I've never been before.
Fumble around, take a buncha bad pictures. Improperly configure the flash, and the camera. Read. Study, figure it out.
This is how I learn shyt. Instead of taking the easy approach and asking a bunch of stupid questions. hahahaha.
My way of saying , I have no idea what the fk I'm doing. But it's fun playing with it.

Look at this. It's horrible. Look at that shadow and the under exposure up top. I can't even photograph mustard for crying out loud.

I was just playing with the flash , trying to learn it. But you're right.
It certainly adds another dimension to photography. One that I'm not familiar with at all.
But why not learn it? What the heck. I don't think It can be synced high speed off camera.
But it can be on camera. It will be a learning thing for me. I'll tell you though, I really impressed by the IQ of the K5.
The color accuracy is astounding. I added a shade of fill light in the mustard pic, thats it.

The I got to goofing around with a gold coin.

High speed sync off camera is possible depending on your setup. I have sync'ed my SB600's and 800's over 1/2000 off camera before.

This one done using 2 SB600's off camera, 1/800.

I believe it can be synched at high speed off-camera with a dedicated TTL remote cord. You know, the ones that cost $59-$89. Not sure what kind of camera you have, but the 1/160 synch speed makes me think you might have a Sony d-slr.

Keep in mind: this is the d-slr era. You can set the camera:shutter speed, aperture, and ISO level, and then set the flash, and make an exposure, and in just SECONDS, you can see the image. That instant review of results is a potentially powerful learning aid. You can shoot virtually free test shots, and see how different settings of the flash zoom head, or different bounce angles affect the pictures. So, look at it that way--you can see what happens if you try all sorts of things. Welcome to the word of light that can be summoned any time, any place.

I've been trying to get it synced out, but I don't think it will.
Now, If I have 2 flashes, one onboard that triggers the other, off camera, I think it can be done.

That's a great shot by the way., Really nice.

Derrel, its me man.
It's a pentax K5
Upgraded from the K7.

And that's what I have been doing. Just playing with it trying to learn it.
I believe you may be onto something with the remote cord. I do a lot of stuff outdoors under existing light.
I'll have wires running everywhere to get a spider shot. lol
I " thought" I may be able to use this thing for macro. I may be better served with a dedicated ring flash.
As soon as I get rid of this thing , or take it back, or whatever..............I'll end up needing it. So i'm probably gonna keep it and get a ring flash too.
And a 50-500mm sigma lens. I really need that. Badly.

Anyway here's one of my testing shots. Just playing with it.
