Not giving away too many secrets... If you're in Scotland in June then visit the Isle of May in the Forth Estuary only a day trip from Edinburgh. It is a bird sanctuary and only staffed by a few researchers and some guardian students from St Andrews University. There is only one trip a day at high tide for about 100 people and you get around 3 hours on the island staying strictly to the paths. Bring a 200-400mm lens equivalent and you can take the same shots. The place is really overflowing with bird life and you will be able to get really close, in fact too close to the colony of Arctic Terns who nest on the ground around where the ferry lands and attack everybody who gets too close to the nests, which is everybody as you have to walk past them to get on the island! Wear a hat to protect your head as they do draw blood.
