Question about external mic

My friend just recently bought the canon rebel eos t2i
He likes photography, and filming videos for editing, He wanted to know if you guys could suggest any good external mics so he can have more of a an enhanced sounds quality
Thanks for all your help, i dont know if this is the wrong place to put this thread, but he wants to spend under hundred maybe 40-60 price range? He already spent all of his savings on the camera and a lens, so yeah he cant go all out

Tell your friend to call B&H, Adorama or Focus Camera and speak with people in those stores. They'd be able to help him more then us replying here, then you taking 411 back and him/her telling you AND you posting back here and on and on and on.
