Ok, so I just bought the Nikkor 50mm 1.4 lens on Friday and have been testing it out. Awesome lens, but here is my issue. Yesterday, outside, I would meter my camera (350ss 1.4ap) and take a photo, it still seemed to not be enough light, so I then turned on my external flash, and it would change my settings to aroun 4-5 ap and the photos still would be a little underexposed.

What can I do to fix this? Or what am I doing wrong?!

When you turn on the flash, the camera probably automatically set the shutter speed to no faster than the flash sync speed. So you went from 1/350 sec to 1/200 sec ( i assumed thats what your sync speed is). Thats why your aperture had to be smaller. I assumed you were shooting with aperture priority. Look at Exposure compensation on your manual if you use semi automatic mode.

You should

A. Post photos that have EXIF data.

and 2. Read your manual for your camera and flash again.

Aperture is not represented by "ap".
