Question about pics looking different after being uploaded to photobucket

I recently uploaded a pic to Photobucket and noticed the colors look washed out and darker. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

It was processed using DXO and LR5.

Probably a conflict with color spaces. Photobucket has size restrictions on uploads. If you upload a photo larger than the limit they re-size it for you and can alter the color space in the process. What was the tagged color space of the photo you uploaded?

I think it's set to srgb. I'll have to check that when I get home. Do you know what it should be set at?

Also, the file was huge. I didn't bother resizing it because PB said there wasn't a limit. That's something else I'll try. Thanks for the tips. :thumbs up:

So I checked.

Supported File Types for Photos and Videos Photobucket Support
Image size limits
There are no size limits in regards to uploading images, and all images are uploaded in their original size!

Plus re-sizing would have no effect on color space.

I agree the issue is most likely a color space compatibility issue.
For online display use sRGB.

I'm thinking you both are correct about the color space. I can recall changing it 2weeks ago, and I probably didn't change it back. I'll check that when I get home. Thanks.

update: Photobucket used to only accept photos of a certain size and they re-sized any larger photos.

Now: They will accept any size photo BUT they will still re-size the photo if it is large (don't know their trigger limit). The original can still be retrieved however the original is not what they will display. They will display their re-sized version of the photo.

When they re-size the photo they strip off the ICC profile tag therefore rendering all the colors in the photo as undefined.

This is what can happen when they do that:

The difference I'm seeing is much more than that in the examples you just shared. I think biggest problem I'm having is what you said about color space. I'm also going to look into the file size. Like I said earlier, it's huge (138mb... lol).

I want you to know I appreciate the time you invested in helping me with this.

Any photos I made you see posted here on TPF are hosted at Photobucket.com and I have been using Photobucket for several years.
I only rarely ever upload photos directly from my computer.

I have never - I repeat, never - have had an issue with Photobucket degrading any image I have stored there.
