Question Regarding Facial Poses for Head Shots

What kind of expressions denote which kind of emotion correctly?

That's the hard part. I'm just getting into it as well. This is when artistic design comes in too. Lots of reading ahead for you and me!

I thought for sure I would get more hits on this question as it one I don't see asked very often. Thank you to those that have given input so far. I understand that different situations call for different expressions, but which ones are never okay? Or are there any? Considering I am using myself as a model to photograph when it comes to portraiture, perhaps I should find a modeling forum somewhere and ask there instead. Does anyone know of any good modeling forums? I think I wanna stay away from modelmayhem but perhaps that is indeed where I should go.

Modelmayhem is not really a good forum for questions. There whole site is a mess and really cheap.

For me....I don't pose faces.
I normally have them do nothing but react to what I say, then I interface with them and get them to make the face I want for the shot.
A favorite is roleplaying, it works really well and is fun for everyone.
I keep the camera ready and shoot when they look good.

Model Mayhem can be a good reference. Like anywhere else, there are some flakes and losers....and there are also some very talented people there that are willing to work with you and share.

Thank you much for the tips. Now I can start walking in the correct direction.
