Question (w/ sample pics)

I gave my wife the D7000 this morning so it could be charged and ready for Christmas. She was still not sure about spending $500 more than a T2i package. After taking almost 200 pics, I think she/we love it.

With our old point and shoot, indoor pics were near impossible. With the D7000 DSLR, the indoor pics tonight actually turned out better when we DIDN'T use the flash. Some were amazing. We still have to get used to working a DSLR, as some of the pics were not focused correctly. It seems like even if you have your subject dead center, if there is something closer off to the side, the camera wants to focus on the closest object and not the subject. We'll figure it out, and the learning curve should be steep.

Thanks again to everyone who offered their $0.02!

Ps. I had borrowed a friend's T2i last week and took pics of our yard Christmas displays in the dark. This evening we did the same with the new D70000. I admit both were on auto, but the D7000 came out much clearer, at least when each were on auto.

Merry Christmas to all...

Read in the manual where it talks about focusing points. For most cases, I personally prefer to use a single autofocus point, allowing me to place it right over someone's eye for example.

I would not say the D7000 blows the T2i away at all. For $700 vs $1200 (body only) the T2i competes fairly well against the D7000. Yes the D7000 will produce better images than the T2i, but it such a small visible difference.

The D7000 has a bigger APS-C sensor, better high ISO performance, faster burst rate, and better color depth. I will admit it, even being a T2i owner. I will also admit it is a nicer camera, but it comes down to the user and the glass paired with the camera to make the images remarkable. The camera alone will not do that for you.
