The lens that came with my new camera is an 18-55mm, whatever that means. What does it mean? I already know the answer: "Go 'google' it", so there's no need to mention my lack of looking on Google for the answer.

The 'mm' number refers to the focal length; which is the distance from the front of the lens to the camera's sensor. Smaller 'mm' = wider shot, larger 'mm' = more zoom. Why? Don't ask why... I'm sure there is lots of boring math and geometry behind it. HAHA!
