Questions about the D70

Hmm I see...
I found this quite interesting review about the D50.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d50.htm

Seems now that the D50 is better than both D40 & D70...
Also, the D50 has a very nice low noise.

I thought that the D70 would be better than the D40 cause the model number was higher.
I see now that I was wrong, because when I read reviews about it... I was wondering why the design was older than the D40 one.

Hmm, so for now I think I'll go with the D50 then(plus the lenses thing won't be a problem)... Seems like it's the best out of them all.

Any of y'all have comments on the D50 that could help me deciding?
Or any suggestion on helping me deciding(this is driving me crazy! I've been through so many reviews, about plenty of cameras, and can't decide still...) between the D50 & D70... Or even suggest me another camera model?

My needs are:

Good battery life
Good for night scenes
Compatibale with a lot of lenses
Good for landscapes/ nature/ urban
Budget around 1000$ with all the equipment

Thanks so much for your help y'all.

i recommended a d70 to my sister a while back, and she bought that one, the only thing that kills me about the d40 is how tiny it is, but i see how that can be a good thing for some people.

night scenes: buy the $20 remote . . . i love it. on bulb mode, press once to open shutter, press it again when your ready to close it.

good for landscapes, most people would prolly recommend a wide lens so:

ken rockwell gave it a good review, mostly based on price, its almost 1/2 the price of nikons 12-24.

with the camera and lens and remote you'll be a little over $1000 i'm guessing, but i'd say it would be worth it to hold out for a lens like that.

but you'll also need a tripod, its nice having a good one, but i didn't know the difference until i had a good one, so just get a hand me down tripod or pick one up at a garage sale.

Yeah the D70 felt the best in my hand out of them all.
Plus I forgot to mention, sorry it's 1000 CAD. So that lens will be a bit too expensive for me right now :(

But some people told me I should be fine with that 18-70mm... Do you think so? And keep in mind that this will be my first dSLR..

I'll also have to buy this equipment:

Camera bag
Tripod
Cleaner kit
USV Lens Filter
Card reader(is it necessary?)
Memory card

And some people told me to be very carefull if I buy off Ebay.. Such deal should be bought they said:

And by the way, what is that remote thing? Sorry english is my 3rd language heh. Is it like this little thing you can take and once you press it it takes the picture(without having to press on the camera), like that you are sure to have a clean picture?

Also, what is this thing under the camera

Seems like they put batteries out there- but can't figure out what it stands for...

i think you will be okay with it, i have one and use it alot, but i only use it because i can't afford a nicer lens at the moment.

its not very sharp, and at 18mm the distortion is really bad.

Hmm I see,
For exemple, wouldn't that combination be good?

The Body

The Lens

You know, I buy only the body(maybe even used) and a good lens...
And I'll buy the rest of the equipment at local stores out here...

Like that it would cost me lots less than if I'd buy everything in a store.

i own the D80 and i have found that taking pictures of landscapes, even at dusk and after...... even when it seems too dark, the pictures show up alot brighter than you would think (without flash).

sounds to me as though you dont need a flash... apart from the built in one that is.

as for the battery.... they last ages!!!!

i use the LCD screen, flash and snap 100s of pictures a day.

a 4gig SD card holds about 523 photos on good quality, and i use them up :)

i say d70, rebels feel cheap to me, in my opinion until you get to the prosumer or pro bodies nikon takes the cake.
