Quick release plate for 80-200mm?

hi,

which quick release plate do you mount your 80-200mm on?? I am using 486Rc2 ball head and ifind the 200PL-14 that comes with ballhead does not prevent twisting and does not secure the lens onto the ballhead steadily enough..??

I have a 488head with an RC0 plate. The RC0 plate is quite a bit larger than the RC2, and can be made more secure if need be. But the catch is that you really need to carry a screwdriver around to tighten the locking nut to get it very secure. It's a bit of a compromise. A harder rubber means a more sturdy mount, but a softer rubber would prevent slipping.

Having not used a RC2 mount before I can't say for certain if getting a head with a different mount would help. I doubt it though, while the RC0 has more surface area, it looks like the RC2 would cover the lens tripod collar already anyway. They are made of the same material so it may not make a difference.

At some point you will probably want to look into the Arca-Swiss style of quick release and lens plates. By far the most versatile and secure. And probably the most expensive. But you never have twisting problems with lenses or bodies.
