Rabatment and RoT

I'm giving up looking at everything through the "Rules of Thirds"...just not as interesting for compositions as rabatment seems to be...the only references I can find about rabatment is in paintings...considering the great masters used this, I have begun to train my eyes to see using this method instead...does anyone else here use it?

You realize that in 4 x 6 aspect ratio the rabatment and the thirds line are the same.
In 4 x 5 only slightly different.

Both of these ideas are based on the same concept that an item at approximately the thirds line appears more important.

Wasn't the thirds line originally an approximation for the golden ratio? 1/1.666 is close to 1/1.618 and easier to remember...

I believe you are right...but I don't know...it just seems the thirds line seems to be a tad too close to the edge...

I just like filling primary subject in left/right square of rabatment and secondary subject in right/left rectangle...with something perhaps on the line that separates the two...
