Rainy day near Hue

One of my favorite movies is 'The Quiet American' not so much for the movie plot or acting but for the color and beauty of the photography and the setting.
Much of it was filmed in or near Hoi An which is a charming little city, famed for its bridge and its tailors.

I tried to make the color of this shot as much as possible like that movie.

these two are scans of film also and are much more "I was there' kind of pictures.
the first is the river side harbor in Hoi An, the second is the famous bridge which, if you have seen the movie, you will remember.
I was there not long after they finished filming in town.

Indeed, very cool to see a nifty red boat of that design. I was interested to see how the oarlocks were constructed--that's something that varies across the world quite a bit. I liked the flag up on the hill as well. Looks like you might have jazzed the flag up just a tiny bit too much with that targeted color adjustment. But it is a tricky thing to call attention to somethin g so small and distant through a color adjustment/local adjustment, but the flag is so obviously bright that it commands almost as much attention as the slightly more sober red boat; which makes this photo a real testament to one of your KEY post-processing concepts of making targeted, selected adjustments to elements found within the shot. heck, the boat/flag red issue could make an entire blog post for your Lew Lorton blog!! (seriously)

I looked at it again after the heat of the moment and think I agree with Derrel that the flag might be too hot so here is a version with slightly toned down flag

Yes, this looks more natural and less "worked-on". This photo really does show though, how something relatively small, like the flag which might be perhaps 1/500 the size of the little hillock, and maybe 1/1000 the size of the two hills combined, can totally draw attention to itself when it is placed at a point of contrast within the picture space. I man, gosh, the flag is a powerful symbol...it has huge visual weight, and yet, it's not all that big in real life. Heck, I see five small rag-type flag over to the left in the lilly pad bed, but they have almost no visual weight. But this red flag is really powerful, and I go back and forth from the boat to the flag, over and over and over.
