Oh my... First one's amazing! The best exposure and nice composition, too. Would you mind telling me the parameters you used? I mean, aperture, shutter speed, ISO... etc.
I believe they call it EXIF right? Oh, and by the way... What lense did you use?

Second one, I don't like the background too much. Is a good picture, but I prefer the first.

Regards,

I like the background in both but the first one better. Colours are really nice and there is a subtle quality about it.

Is that the Monarch Butterfly, or a just a similar one? Nice shots - I'll go against the grain as I prefer the second shot. The upper wings seem a bit dark on the first.

I was on a walkabout with my D7000 and my 70-200 2.8 VRII (which I usually don't carry for these kind of shots.. just wanted to see what I could find and what it would do!)

EXIF on the first shot:

Camera: NIKON D7000
Lens: Unknown model (70-200mm F2.8 D, G, VR; ID: A2 48 5C 80 24 24 A4 0E)
Focal length: 200 mm (equiv. 300 mm)
Aperture: F11
Exposure time: 1/200" (-0.33 EV)
ISO speed rating: 200/24°

I was using an SB-900 in for fill flash.. don't remember the power settings... it was OC.

2nd shot EXIF

Camera: NIKON D7000
Lens: Unknown model (70-200mm F2.8 D, G, VR; ID: A2 48 5C 80 24 24 A4 0E)
Focal length: 195 mm (equiv. 292 mm)
Aperture: F5.6
Exposure time: 1/250" (-0.33 EV)
ISO speed rating: 160/23°

ditto on the fill flash....

Thanks, pen! I chased him for several hundred yards... he didn't want his picture taken! :)

Thanks for those settings. I would love to have that lens, it appears to be a very popular one so I'm assuming very good. It is on my list for next year.

Yes.. a Monarch Butterfly! This one was a bit odd, in that one wing was a beautiful orange that was a hair darker than the other.

I was just doing that with a huge dragon fly, just wouldn't sit down and relax for any more then a second. Usually just enough time for me to catch up. I think he was playing with me.

It is an awesome lens.. but it is heavy if you are using it for hours and shooting a lot.
