For the past 7 years I have made my annual trip to Alcatraz with my family for the Sunrise Gathering. Over the years my family has grown and we always look forward to sharing some of my heritage with my girls as well as be able to participate in a sacred ceremony such as this. This year was extra special since both my mom and brother flew up from LA so that they can come with us to the rock. Although the morning on the island ended badly as my brother got ill and needed to be rush to the ER I am glad that the people their were able to support us and say a prayer in our time of need.
Here are a couple photos of the Aztec Dancers from the ceremony who began just as the sun began to rise.
The Drummer begins before the dancers enter the circle.
The dancers enter by circling the sacred fire
A shot from one of the dances
On our way home from San Francisco after spending the morning on Alcatraz and a trip to the ER we decided to make a stop at Fort Point which sits right below the South San Francisco Side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Of course I had to shoot a couple pics of my gorgeous girls.
The next day we headed back to SF. My brother had rested most of the day and wanted to see everyone before going home. So we headed to Bubba Gump for a late lunch/early dinner.
As we waited for our food my brother braided K's hair and then braided his own so they could match
On our drive down K made her uncle a special card. These pics were taken just after he read it.
Can you tell how much these two love each other? They really do have a special bond.
At the end of the week we took a trip to St. Helena to visit Grandpa and have some ice cream at the Big Dipper.
And I saved the best for last.... He looks adorable with his ice cream cone.
