Was sitting on the front steps watching the sky this afternoon when I noticed these two hawks(?) overhead, not sure exactly what type they are. Could also use advice on the best way to crop/frame images like these.

Be well,

Anthony

Just a stab, they could be be Red-tailed hawks.

Looks like the were shot pretty far away so cropping too much may not yield very good results. That being said, you may simply try to crop out as much blue dead space as you can.

If you don't mind, what part of California are you in?

That's what I thought looking at them with the naked eye, having never seen them up close I wasn't sure.

Yes they where quite high overhead. I've already cropped them, any tighter and they start looking pretty bad, still with a 300mm lens...

The San Fernando Valley, north of Los Angeles.

I did third grade in Van Nuys and left CA shortly after the '72 quake that did a nasty number on the Sylmar area, where coincidently, I lived and survived the quake.

Isn't it about time for you to visit Huntington Beach?

If you care to travel a little South, Bolsa Chica Wetlands is a great place to spend the day.

Thanks for that Cornell link, I looked up Bolsa Chica after seeing pictures in one of your post.

Not up to traveling right now, funny thing is... I live ten minutes away from the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve SepulvedaBasinWildlife.org and have yet to get over there.
