I've been use adobe camera raw to process files from my D90. I just picked up a D300. I go to open the raw files from the D300 in photoshop and I get the message "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." Any ideas on what is going on now?

Could be you need a software update.

Yes, the version of ACR that you have is probably too old to open D300 images. Hopefully, there is an ACR update available for your version of Photoshop; NOT supporting newer cameras is one of the ways Adobe has perfected to sell otherwise mostly unneeded, money-grabbing updates to Photoshop. It might be that your version of Photoshop is beyond the cutoff, and you will be forced to either update Photoshop with a newer version, or buy Lightroom, or convert the .NEF files from the D300 to Adobe's .DNG format so that your current copy of PS can still work for you. Adobe $ystem$ has got it all figured out for u$.

Adobe Systems is a for profit company, not a charity.
Adobe's professional grade software has always had a lower price than most other professional grade software. Compare CAD the pricing of software from Autodesk (AutoCAD - $1200 or Dassault Systemes (Solidworks - you have to ask for a quote)

Updates to current release versions are free. Upgrades were offered at 72% off of retail pricing, and upgrade pricing was offered back 3 release versions. CS 3 owners qualified for CS 6 upgrade pricing.
Adobe offers heavily discounted student pricing (up to 66%) to K-12 grades, and to high education students that attend accredited institutions. At least for now.

So much of Adobe's software has been pirated (stolen) over the years, they have been forced to adopt a monthly rental model.

Don't be surprised when other software companies adopt the same monthly payment model since it's so far working very well for Adobe at preventing theft of their software, an industry wide problem.

Reinstalled Cs5 and raw 6.7. That fixed it. I must have had a older version of raw.
