I save everything I shoot in raw. Only what I post, print, etc. is jpeg.

I want to shoot RAW, but do so in jpeg-fine currently.
CS3 doesnt support the RAW files from my D5000.

Get Adobe's free DNG converter and convert your NEF files to DNG, and then you can use CS3's Camera Raw. Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows

Or, you can use Nikon's View NX that came with your D5000 and convert to TIFF.

I save the file in RAW then save the edited file in JPEG so I have both

Shoot Raw, Edit CS5, Save one copy RAW and one copy JPEG. Upload to share in JPEG only because the file sizes are too big to share in RAW.

I upload to share in JPEG only because photo hosting sites don't accept RAW.

I shoot in Raw and have done since 2008. think of RAW asa digital negative. Jpeg does loose information plus you don't have all the editing capabilities that you do with RAW. Once i have finished any slight post production then its is saved as either Tiff or Jpg for print or online.
