RAW pics wont open

Why wont my computer let me open my raw pictures? is it only gimp and photoshop that can read those or something?

there are number of programs that can open raw format, photoshop, lightroom, acdsee, picasa, etc
You had to make sure that software you're using is supporting the camera raw files you're trying to load.

found a codec for nikon on windows picture viewer (for when im just "flipping" through them). problem solved though sorry all kind of wasted ur time. thanks for reading though! and thanks EMT for the fast response!
