Do professional DSLR's take better pictures than consumer DSLR's?

Like my E-500 will a E-1 5mp DSLR take better pictures than my E-500 8mp??

Better pictures are taken by better photographers

pro-DSLRs will offer more pro features, might be better sealed against weather, be very sturdy. might have better AF. sometimes they have better sensors than the non-pro-DSLRs of the same generation.

But if for a particular image you do not need any of the pro features (be it shutter speed, better spot metering or whatever), then pro or not pro will not make much difference if the sensors are roughly comparable. After all it is about the sensor and the lens only in the end.

a pro cam of generation n might have a sensor which creates more noise and has a lower resolution compared with a non-pro camera of generation n+1 ...

In that case, and if you do not need the extra features, then the non-pro will be a better option for a particular image.

The answer is no. If you want to work on better photographs then work on your photography, not your equipment. Equipment is almost never the answer. Good shooting.
