It much easier to shoot them wide then crop, than try to put in what isn't there. Then again if you shoot too loose, you cut into either you pixels digi or add a lot of grain if you shoot film.

I like it better without the ear. Matter of fact, there are several things I like about this one. Kitty's face and eyes are in focus, and the paw is not, which emphasizes both as a pair. We see the expression, plus the larger than life paw reaching out toward us, telling us how poweful he is, swiping at the insignificant camera-wielder endeavoring to annoy him. How DARE that camera-wielder!
