Just walking around the zoo, thankful that there's a place I can see non-native species to photograph, and I saw this Leopard just staring at me...

Notice two things .... I did, right away... Notice the intelligence and sadness in the eyes. Then, focus on the wire cage in the forground.. How it contrasts what is supposed to be a beautiful thing to see...

I took the shot ................... I then left & drove the 125 miles back home. On my way home, I couldn't help but notice several large herds of Antelope out in the prairie near the freeway - running free.. Now - I'm not sure that I'm thankful anymore that there's a place I can see non-native species .. just to photograph..

Everyone get's their own opinion about zoo's - and I respect them all... I guess I've just changed mine.

i hear ya ... go to a circus sometime and wait till they parade the lion and elephants out for the enjoyment of the kids.

Very touching picture, you definitively got the feeling you wanted from that picture. Poor little guy would probably enjoy one the antelope!

There are good zoos and bad zoos I guess. The animals in the Akron Zoo near where I live are treated very well. I've met a few of the people who work there and I can say that they truly love the animals. It still makes me sad to see wild animals, particularly lions, jaguars and leopards (all at Akron) basically walled in. Although there is very little chain link fence and mostly see-through (lexan or plexiglass?) walls. On the bright side, no animals there will ever go hungry or suffer from drought.
