Ok, how do I make the PEN tool act like the lasso tool where I can use it to make an accurate selection? Everytime I use the pen tool it just fills the design with a solid color...or when I select PATHS it doesn't make the lassoed selection. I hope I explained that ok..

In the options bar at the top, there are a few squares which control that, default is set to layer-shapes. Click the paths only box.

I did the paths only box, but it's just a line, it actually won't do the selection

Hmmm, obvious question but do you have the free-form pen tool selected (click and hold the pen tool in the toolbox, choose the free-form pen)? I personally like to make my own paths.

No it's not selected, but when I use the freeform pen tool i loose the control point function which is the whole reason I use the pen tool. Even in free form it wont make a selection.

Just draw the path, then convert it to a selection.

This might seem like a dumb question...how do I convert to a selection?

I can't think of it off the top of my head....

Try opening the channels pallet. When you create a path, I think it saves that path as a mask. You can use that to create your selection.

*Scratch that. Open the 'Paths' pallet once you have completed the path with the pen tool. Right click on the path and choose 'make selection'.

Once you make a path, command/ctrl click on the path's preview in the paths palette. Tip: double-click on the path in the paths palette and name it, otherwise if you draw another path it will include it in your initial work path

:mrgreen:BINGO!! THANKS EVERYONE!!!

Once you finish the fath, you can just right click inside of it, and it will bring up a little right click style menu box that has all your options. Just click 'Make Selection...", and it bring up the selection dialogue box. Easy as pie.
