So I recently took apart an old broken rangefinder that I had laying around broken. I re purposed the lens and mounted it in a bodyy cap as a macro lens. Here are a couple of results. (lens is a Petri 4.5cm f2.8)

Interesting stuff. I think you need better lighting now. Maybe use a mirror to reflect some light on your foreground.

Hey thats cool!

I like #2. I like the noise (and usually I hate noise on macro shots, but I like it here) and the odd colored green background. Maybe a little sharper would be better, though. It doesnt seem quite in focus. Although none of them are crisp, so it could easily be the lens.

But good idea. :) You must be handy.

The lens is not sharp at all. There is no coating at all on the lens and I have to move the camera back and forth to focus. The lens itself is pretty haggard looking. Old cameras were built like tanks. It took forever to get the lens apart. I fashioned a macro tube out of the original mounting tube from the lens. I am going to try to reattach the light meter cells and clean it up a little better so that it isn't so embarrassing to use. Only f2.8-f8 work as a result of torquing the lens a little too much. And I can't get the camera base plate off. Crude, but it works. Here is a picture I took of the lens, and here is a picture I took with it yesterday with an improvised lighting setup comprised of a cigarette lid bounce flash, a fishing flashlight, a pack of cigarettes as a reflector and a painters tape lid covered in painters tape as a second reflector.
