1) His head merges with the background and me eyes jump back and forth between his hands and the lower part of his face. What is it that you want me to look at?

3) Why is this shot in potrait aspect when the subject is horizontal? Why include her legs but cut ff her arm and put her head on the margin?
4) perspective distortion makes her head look very large. Is that what you want?

That's very observant Lew. I can see I'm nowhere near as knowledgeable but:
I kind of like #1 & 2 but not #3&4 so much for the same reasons Lew pointed out. I just wouldn't have said it that way.

Look at #1 and #2. try to 'feel' where your eyes go. Do they light on something or skip from bright spot to bright spot. That's the problem with multiple essentially photographically unrelated centers of image; it takes a concerted effort to recognize where the real center of interest should be and focus on that - and why should it be the bottom of his face?
